Human Body

Join Rabbi Schiff for a 7-session course to explore the reaction of Judaism to the way in which we treat our bodies.

Our physical selves are currently a central preoccupation. It raises the question of what are our responsibilities to our own bodies? Tattooing, body-piercing, cosmetic surgery, cremation, embalming, hair cutting, hair covering, immersing, clothing… In most contemporary societies, the vast majority of these issues are matters of personal preference.  In Judaism, however, these provocative subjects pertaining to the human body are subject to detailed consideration and regulation. In this 7-session course, Rabbi Schiff will explore the reaction of Judaism to the way in which we treat our bodies, and why it is that Judaism seeks to make rules on these intimate topics.
