Jewish Legacy Giving Program Secures 120 in Commitments in the First 4 Months

LIFE & LEGACY leaders participated in national legacy giving conference June 3-5

A New legacy giving program in Pittsburgh has secured more than 120 after-lifetime commitments with an estimated value of over 5.5 Million dollars in future financial gifts to the community. The commitments are a part of collaboration between The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Pittsburgh and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF) to preserve vibrant Jewish life for future generations by ensuring the long-term financial health of Jewish community organizations in Pittsburgh. The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Pittsburgh, in turn, partnered with local organizations as a part of the four-year program that provides coaching, training and incentive grants to ensure that legacy giving becomes a normal part of the philanthropic culture of the community. Nationally, HGF has helped its partners to secure 19,000 legacy commitments, valued at more than $702 million of which $62 million has already been placed in organizational endowments.

Recently, leaders from the Pittsburgh LIFE & LEGACY organizations joined colleagues from across the country who are actively implementing the LIFE & LEGACY program in Springfield, Massachusetts, for this year’s LIFE & LEGACY/Create a Jewish Legacy Leadership Gathering. The conference was aimed at building skills, sharing best practices and providing opportunities for networking amongst the participants in order to continue creating sustainable, legacy giving programs in their local communities.

“Providing Jewish communities with proven tools and training to help them secure their long-term financial goals is absolutely vital. Through the LIFE & LEGACY program, I’m hopeful that we will be able to help sustain vibrant communities that allow future generations to enjoy our rich Jewish culture and heritage,” said Harold Grinspoon, the founder of HGF.

LIFE & LEGACY is a 4-year partnership program of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF) that assists communities across North America, through partnerships with Jewish Federations and Foundations, to promote after-lifetime giving to benefit Jewish day schools, synagogues, social service organizations and other Jewish entities.
