Learn about our Funds

The Foundation encompasses a variety of endowment funds, each with different regulations and benefits to donors and the community. These include:

Unrestricted Funds

Unrestricted Funds enable the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh to respond to future community needs and opportunities that are unknown to us today. Combined to form the Campaign Community Trust, Unrestricted Funds strengthen the Federation’s Annual Campaign, the lifeline of the community. Only the income of Community Trust Funds may be allocated; the principal remains intact.

Donor Advised Funds (Philanthropic Funds)

Donor Advised Funds enable donors to recommend distributions of the principal and income to specific charities. Donor Advised Funds are established with contributions of cash, marketable or closely held securities, real estate, or almost any asset. Tax deductions accrue when gifts are made to the fund.

Legacy Funds

Legacy funds enable donors, both male and female, to endow their Annual Campaign commitments, at whatever level, by establishing permanent endowment funds to endow their commitments in perpetuity.

Lion of Judah Endowments (LOJE)

The Lion of Judah Endowment program enables Women’s Philanthropy donors to assure that their commitments of $5,000 or more to the Annual Community Campaign will continue, by establishing a permanent endowment fund to endow their commitments in perpetuity.

Restricted Endowment Funds

Endowment Funds enable donors to permanently designate the beneficiary or beneficiaries of a gift, choosing one or more specific programs, charities or fields of interest in any combination.

Bequests, Memorial & Honorials

These funds enable donors to honor the memory of – or recognize – parents, grandparents and other loved ones, or name the fund for the donor and his or her own family. Donors are asked to sign a Letter of Intent, which will enable them – and the community – to plan for the future. These letters constitute a promise to make a gift, either during one’s lifetime or through a bequest.
